Trini Folklore.
My interpretation of Papa Bois, the La Diablesse, and two Douens.
Papa Bois- the guardian of the animals and the custodian of the trees.
La Diablesse- the devil woman of Trinidad and Tobago folklore. She has one cloven foot and is known to charm men and lead them deep into the forest where she disappears and leaves them lost.
Douens- spirits of children who died before they were baptized. They practice pranks, mostly on living children who are enticed away into the forest and are then left abandoned.
Honestly, I’ve always thought that Douens were the creepiest ones. I mean…children with backwards facing feet…..
